Akron Man Charged With Murder After Fatal Callis Oval Shooting

Akron Police officers responded to the 600 block of Callis Oval late Tuesday night after receiving multiple reports of a shooting. Officers arrived around 9:49 p.m. and found a 19 year old male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso.

Victim Taken to Hospital

The victim was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General, where he later died from his injuries. Police have not released the victim’s name.

Officers located and detained a 27 year old man in connection with the shooting. A firearm believed to have been used during the incident was also recovered at the scene.

Investigation Points to Earlier Altercation

Major Crimes Unit detectives interviewed witnesses while the Crime Scene Unit processed the area and collected evidence. Investigators learned the victim had been involved in an altercation with another man earlier in the day.

Detectives say the suspect was aware of that earlier incident and later approached the victim while armed. A physical struggle followed, during which the suspect struck the victim with the firearm before shooting him multiple times.

Charges Filed
