Domestic Violence Arrests, OVI Charges Mark Three Weeks of Stow Police Reports

Stow police responded to a wide range of calls over a three week stretch spanning late June through July 20. Records released by the department show several domestic violence cases involving strangulation and rape allegations, a string of OVI arrests, two vehicle pursuits, and multiple drug related arrests. Officers also handled dozens of theft, fraud, and harassment complaints during the period.

Domestic Violence

Several of the most serious cases logged during the three weeks involved domestic violence.

A closed domestic incident was reported July 5 on Hiwood Avenue. A domestic incident on Arndale Road was marked pending prosecution July 2.

An arrest for disorderly conduct tied to domestic violence occurred July 7 on Elm Way. A domestic incident on Santom Circle was logged as domestic violence July 9.

The most severe allegations came July 9 on Waterford Circle, where a sex offense report listed strangulation that created a risk of physical harm along with a rape allegation involving force or the threat of force. A warrant was issued July 12 for a domestic incident on Young Road that also involved a strangulation allegation.

Domestic violence arrests followed July 16 on Norman Drive and July 17 on Hampshire Road, both listed as knowingly causing physical harm. The most extensive charges came July 20 on Elmhurst Drive, where an arrest report listed domestic violence, rape involving force or threat, and strangulation that caused serious physical harm. A pending prosecution domestic incident was also logged July 20 on Mallard Avenue.

Sex Offenses

Beyond the Waterford Circle case, a sex offense report closed July 9 on L'Ermitage Place was classified as sexual imposition. A reluctant victim was noted in a July 7 sex offense report on Kent Road.

A pandering obscenity case involving a minor was reported July 17 on Churchill Downs. A sex offense from January 2020 tied to Smokerise Drive also appeared in the most recent log, though the reason for its late entry was not specified.

OVI and Liquor Law Arrests

Officers made numerous impaired driving arrests during the period. OVI arrests were logged July 5 near Steels Corners Road and near Fairchild Avenue at Fieldstone Drive, and again July 6 at Kent Road and Fishcreek Road.

Two liquor law arrests followed, one July 5 near Darrow Road and Norton Road and another July 11 tied to a location near downtown Stow. An OVI arrest July 12 followed a traffic stop near Arndale Road and Darrow Road.

The pattern continued into the following week. Arrests were logged July 15 on Kent Road and on Goldfinch Trail, the latter also citing weaving and failure to control. Two more OVI cases were reported July 19, one at Kent Road and Park Drive and another on Bridgewater Parkway, where a breath test reportedly measured above the legal limit.

Vehicle Pursuits

Two separate pursuits were logged during the period. A pursuit that began July 7 near Darrow Road and Terex Road in Hudson also involved charges of felonious assault, failure to comply with an officer signal, and receiving stolen property.

A second pursuit was reported July 12 near State Route 8 and Seasons Road, resulting in charges for failure to comply and a vehicle pursuit violation. A third pursuit arrest followed July 15 near State Route 8 and Steels Corners Road.

Drug and Narcotics Arrests

Narcotics arrests were common throughout the three week span. An arrest June 30 on Kent Road involved drug abuse charges.

A narcotics case tied to illegal processing of drug documents was reported July 9 near Fishcreek Road and Greenlawn Drive. A separate July 9 arrest on Kent Road combined a warrant from another agency, a shoplifting charge, and possession of a schedule I or II substance.

An arrest July 10 on Darrow Road brought charges of driving under the influence of drugs, along with possession of prescription medication without authorization and possession of cocaine. Additional narcotics arrests followed July 17 on Kent Road, involving drug paraphernalia and schedule I or II substances, and July 19 on Mac Drive, which also cited a juvenile tobacco violation. A weapons law arrest was also logged July 5.

Menacing, Assault, and Burglary

An aggravated menacing case tied to a warrant was reported July 2 on Fishcreek Road. Another aggravated menacing case, also linked to domestic violence, was reported July 14 on Kent Road. A menacing and stalking complaint was logged July 20 on Seasons Road.

Simple assault reports were filed June 30 on Fishcreek Road, July 4 on L'Ermitage Place, and twice July 7, on Darrow Road and Graham Road. A burglary was reported June 30 on Leewood Road and later closed.

Theft, Fraud, and Identity Theft

Theft and larceny made up the largest single category of reports across the three weeks, with more than 30 incidents logged. Many involved shoplifting at retail locations along Kent Road, while others cited theft from motor vehicles, theft from a building, and general larceny reported at addresses across the city.

Fraud and identity theft cases were also frequent. Reports included telecommunications fraud on Kenneth Road, an identity fraud case on Laurel Woods Boulevard, and additional fraud complaints on Maplepark Road, Samira Road, Graham Road, and Kent Road. An older fraud case dated to June and involved identity theft on Darrow Road.

Harassment, Trespass, and Disorderly Conduct

Telecommunications harassment complaints were reported at a steady pace throughout the period, with cases logged on Bryn Athen Drive, Sanford Avenue, Kent Road, Chatwood Drive, Tall Grass Circle, and Meadowbrook Boulevard, among other streets. Trespass complaints were also common, including cases on Hudson Drive, Graham Road, Lakepoint Corporate Drive, Maplehurst Drive, and Hunters Crossing.

Disorderly conduct arrests, several tied to intoxication, were reported throughout both weeks, including cases on Maplehurst Drive, Fishcreek Road, Marhofer Avenue at Sanford Avenue, and Allen Road.

Other Incidents

Additional reports during the three weeks included an extortion and blackmail complaint on Uniondale Drive, a forgery and counterfeiting case on Hillside Trail, and an unauthorized use of a motor vehicle case on Queensbury Circle that resulted in a warrant. A fireworks complaint was closed on Klein Avenue, and animal complaints, including a report of a dog running at large that caused injury, were logged on Kenneth Road and Charles Place.

Juvenile complaints, including a runaway report on Pilgrim Drive, were filed on several dates. A commercial soliciting complaint that also cited an animal bite was reported on Hillbrook Drive, and a littering complaint was closed on Darrow Road.
