GATES MILLS, Ohio – The Gates Mills Police Department handled a variety of incidents over the holiday week, culminating in assisting an outside agency with the arrest of a hit-and-run suspect. From June 29 through July 5, local officers responded to multiple calls for service, including false alarms, community assistance requests, and a heavily damaged vehicle tracked down from a neighboring jurisdiction.

Hit-and-Run Suspect Arrested on West Hill Drive

The most significant incident in the Gates Mills police blotter occurred on the evening of July 5. At approximately 7:00 p.m., the Pepper Pike Police Department requested that Gates Mills officers check a residence on West Hill Drive. Pepper Pike authorities were searching for a vehicle with heavy front-end damage that had been involved in a recent hit-skip accident.

Upon arriving at the West Hill Drive home, officers located the suspect vehicle. Inside the car, police discovered a male sleeping with the airbags already deployed. Pepper Pike police officers arrived on the scene shortly after and placed the male under arrest. Gates Mills officers provided scene security and assisted as needed.

Holiday Weekend Alarm Responses and Property Checks

The Gates Mills police blotter also noted several property checks and false alarms during the week:

June 29 (911 Hang-up): Officers responded to a 911 call originating from a residence in the Chagrin River Road area. Upon arrival, responding officers confirmed the call was an accidental dial made by a housepainter working on the property.

July 3 (Residential Alarm): Police were dispatched to a home on Fox Hill Drive following a residential alarm activation. Officers inspecting the perimeter located an open door that had inadvertently blown open due to weather conditions. The interior of the home was checked, cleared, and secured.

July 3 (Suspicious Vehicle): An officer responded to the Chagrin Valley Hunt Club to meet with management regarding an unknown vehicle parked in their private lot. A message was successfully left with the vehicle’s owner requesting its immediate removal.
