GATES MILLS, Ohio – The Gates Mills Police Department recently responded to a series of community incidents involving a major traffic arrest, a residential cyber attack, and an ongoing investigation into an abandoned vehicle crash. These recent events highlight the department’s ongoing efforts to maintain public safety and manage diverse community disputes throughout Northeast Ohio.

Traffic Stop on Mayfield Road Leads to Warrants and Citations

On June 19, a Gates Mills police officer initiated a traffic stop on Mayfield Road after observing a vehicle traveling 66 mph in a 45 mph zone. The driver, a 24-year-old female from Elyria, was operating the vehicle with three juvenile passengers inside. Upon a background check, officers discovered the driver was operating under a license suspension and had an active traffic warrant out of the Highland Heights Police Department. Highland Heights officers responded to the scene, where the female was able to pay her outstanding fine directly. Gates Mills police issued her two traffic citations, and a family member was called to the scene to safely drive the vehicle and children away.

Timberidge Road Resident Reports Computer Cyber Hack

On June 23, a resident living on Timberidge Road contacted the Gates Mills Police Department to file an official report regarding a cyber security breach. The resident stated that their computer had been compromised by an unauthorized hacker. Upon discovering that their sensitive personal information had been accessed, the resident sought a police report to document the identity theft risk.

Officers Defuse Co-Worker Disagreement at Aria Assisted Living

On June 24, Gates Mills officers were dispatched to the Aria Assisted Living facility located on SOM Center Road. The call requested a police presence to escort an employee safely to her vehicle following a heated workplace disagreement with a co-worker. Officers arrived and assisted with the escort without further incident.

Brigham Road Domestic Dispute Forwarded for Prosecutor Review

On June 27, officers responded to a residence on Brigham Road regarding a domestic dispute between a mother and her 15-year-old son. During an argument, the mother allegedly threw a plastic cup filled with wine at the juvenile. The teenager’s father, who resides in a different city, arrived at the home to take custody of the boy for the evening. Because the father expressed a strict desire to pursue criminal charges, the case is being forwarded to the local prosecutor for formal review.

Middle-of-the-Night County Line Road Crash Remains Under Investigation

On June 28 at approximately 2:00 a.m., an officer on patrol discovered a single-vehicle accident where an unoccupied car had crashed into a tree on County Line Road near Old Mill Road. Gates Mills police and fire personnel thoroughly searched the surrounding area, but no driver or passengers were located. Inside the vehicle, officers found and photographed several open containers of alcoholic beverages before having the car towed.

Investigators later contacted the vehicle’s owner, a female residing in Cleveland Heights. She claimed she noticed her vehicle was missing earlier that day from her grandmother’s residence in Cleveland but did not know how it ended up in Gates Mills. The owner had not yet reported the vehicle stolen to the Cleveland Police Department. The single-vehicle crash remains under active investigation.
