Mantua Village Council Takes Action on Budget, Roads, Dispatch and Cybersecurity

Mantua Village Council approved seven pieces of legislation at its June 16, 2026, meeting, covering a wide range of municipal priorities from the 2027 budget to cybersecurity, street repairs, and a new dispatching arrangement with the City of Ravenna.

All seven measures were declared emergencies, a designation that allows them to take effect immediately rather than waiting for the standard 30-day period following adoption.

Dispatching Moves to Ravenna

One of the most significant actions was the approval of Resolution 2026-21, which authorizes Mayor Tammy Meyer and the village fiscal officer to enter into an agreement with the City of Ravenna for dispatching services.

The move follows a period of staffing challenges at the Mantua Police Department dispatch center. A prior agreement had allowed either party to discontinue dispatch oversight after June 30, 2026, with at least 30 days written notice. The new agreement with Ravenna formalizes the next chapter in Mantua’s dispatch operations.

Budget and Financial Measures

Council adopted Ordinance 2026-20, which establishes the permanent budget for 2027. The ordinance was approved following the required public budget hearing under Ohio Revised Code 5705.30.

Ordinance 2026-22 authorizes adjustments to the current 2026 appropriation, a routine mid-year measure that allows the village to realign spending with actual needs and revenues.

Street Restoration Fund Established

Resolution 2026-25 creates a special revenue fund dedicated to receiving and disbursing money related to the restoration of multiple village streets. The move signals a structured approach to ongoing road improvements.

The village has been active on road work recently, with High Street seeing grinding and paving activity in mid-June. The new fund provides a dedicated financial track for larger restoration efforts.

Davey Resource Group Contract Approved

Ordinance 2026-24 authorizes Mayor Meyer to execute a preliminary agreement with Davey Resource Group, Inc. for design-build services. Davey Resource Group provides a range of natural resource and utility consulting services to municipal clients. The specific scope of the project was not detailed in the legislation title, but the agreement follows the standard preliminary form between an owner and design-builder.

NatureWorks Grant Application Authorized

Resolution 2026-26 gives the village authority to apply for funding through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources NatureWorks Grant Program. NatureWorks grants provide up to 75% reimbursement assistance to local government subdivisions for the acquisition, development, and rehabilitation of recreational areas. Eligible projects include trails, playgrounds, sports courts, and other public outdoor amenities.

Since the program’s inception, NatureWorks has funded more than 2,300 public park projects across all 88 Ohio counties. The resolution authorizes village officials to prepare and submit all required application materials.

Cybersecurity Policy Adopted

Ordinance 2026-23 formally adopts a cybersecurity policy for the village. The measure reflects a growing priority among local governments to protect municipal systems and data from digital threats.
