Lake Erie Crushers Fall 18-2 to Evansville Otters at ForeFront Field

A rainbow arched over ForeFront Field on Tuesday night, offering a moment of beauty in an otherwise difficult evening for the Lake Erie Crushers, who dropped an 18-2 decision to the Evansville Otters in Frontier League action.

The Crushers fell to 14-20 on the season while the Otters improved to 22-11.

An Inning to Forget

The damage was done early. Evansville sent 11 batters to the plate in the first inning, a 60-pitch affair that consumed 35 minutes. The Otters pushed six runs across before the Crushers could settle in.

Evansville’s TJ Salvaggio, the shortstop, drove the knife deeper in the third with a two-run home run. Two more runs followed in the fourth, and the Otters led 10-0 before rain and wind swept through the ballpark.

Play resumed after the storm, and a double rainbow appeared above the field, giving fans something to enjoy. Unfortunately for the home crowd, the Otters were not done. They added eight more runs over the next three innings.

A Bright Spot in the Seventh

Center fielder Sebastian Alexander gave Crushers fans something to cheer in the bottom of the seventh, launching a two-run home run. It was his second homer of the season and a bright moment in an otherwise one-sided contest.

Starter Andres Parra took the loss, dropping to 3-2 after failing to escape the first inning. Ben Petschke earned the win for Evansville, improving to 2-1.

Pike Makes His Mark

The most compelling individual performance of the night may have come from Crushers pitcher Garrett Pike, who made his professional debut in the eighth inning. Pike worked two scoreless frames, retiring batters efficiently in what was a genuinely impressive showing on a tough night for the home team.
