Solon Police Blotter: Domestic Violence, Weapon Offenses, and OVI Arrests

Two loaded handguns turned up during routine traffic stops, a 49-year-old driver registered nearly three times the legal limit, and officers issued a warrant in a strangulation case.

The Solon Police Department handled a variety of serious incidents during the week of April 29, 2026, including arrests involving firearms, multiple OVI charges, and a domestic violence investigation. Officers responded to calls ranging from a strangulation report to motor vehicle accidents that led to the discovery of felony warrants and loaded weapons.

Domestic Violence and Strangulation Investigation

On April 20, officers responded to the 37,000 block of Bainbridge Road following a report from an uninvolved party regarding a domestic dispute that had occurred on April 18. Upon arrival, police conducted a welfare check and located a 23-year-old victim with visible bruising on her neck and body. Although the victim declined to file charges, investigators determined that a 24-year-old male household member had allegedly strangled and threatened her. A warrant was subsequently issued.

Traffic Stops Lead to Weapon Offenses

Two separate traffic stops resulted in firearm-related charges this week:

  • Cochran Road Stop: On April 22, an officer stopped a silver Hyundai for expired plates. The stop led to the discovery of an open beer bottle and a loaded semi-automatic pistol hidden under the passenger seat. A 39-year-old male was charged with Improper Handling of a Firearm (M2), Open Container, and Expired Plates.
  • Aurora Road Stop: On April 28, a registration check on a black Chrysler 200 revealed the owner had a suspended license. During the stop, officers detected the odor of marijuana and discovered a loaded semi-automatic pistol in the center console along with drug paraphernalia. The 19-year-old driver was charged with Improper Handling of a Firearm (M2) and Driving Under Suspension.

OVI Arrests and Impaired Driving

Solon police addressed two significant OVI incidents involving alcohol:

  • Freeway Off-Ramp Crash: On April 23, officers investigated a two-vehicle crash on the US 422 east off-ramp at SOM Center Road. A 52-year-old driver who struck a stopped SUV admitted to consuming alcohol and was cited for OVI (M1) and Failure to Maintain Assured Clear Distance after providing a urine sample for analysis.
  • Liberty Hills Welfare Check: Early on April 28, officers found a 49-year-old male stopped in the roadway at Cromwell Drive and North Roundhead Drive. The driver, who exhibited slurred speech and failed field sobriety tests, registered a .224% Blood Alcohol Concentration — nearly three times the 0.08 legal limit. He was charged with OVI (M1) and Prohibited BAC (M1).

Warrant Arrest and Criminal Damaging

In other activity, a car crash on April 21 at the US 422 off-ramp led to the arrest of a 25-year-old passenger found to have an active felony warrant for theft out of the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office. Police also investigated a report of criminal damaging at Mitchell's Ice Cream on Kruse Drive, where a woman found her vehicle's rear passenger window shattered on April 23; no suspects were identified.
